Many people find mediation less stressful, it helps the parties to negotiate and then make workable decisions about what is right for them. It is usually quicker and costs less than using solicitors.
Why not go to court?
There has been a requirement since April 2011 that anyone wanting to make a family application to the court will need to be able to demonstrate that they have tried mediation, save in exceptional circumstances. Who will my mediator be?
You will be assigned a mediator for your initial mediation information meeting. We will endeavour to ensure you see the same mediator throughout the process.
Is any agreement legally binding?
No, however the paperwork prepared by the mediator, that sets out your agreement once mediation is complete, can then be given to your solicitor to be incorporated into a legally binding agreement if you want.
How many sessions are there normally to reach an agreement?
On average there are between 2 and 5 sessions, but some mediations can be settled in just 1.
How long are each of the Sessions?
The sessions will normally last an hour and a half.
How much does it cost?
The initial session which includes an assessment meeting lasts for on average 90 minutes, and for the first session is charged at £250.00 per couple,(£125.00 each) the second and subsequent meetings are charged at £65 per person per half hour or part thereof with a minimum of one hour per sessions.
How many sessions does it normally take?
There is no fixed number of sessions we work at your speed but normally there are between three and five sessions.
Is it cheaper than a Solicitor?
Hopefully matters will be resolved in three to five sessions and with solicitors hourly rates often over£250 an hour your cost should be considerably less than using Solicitors.
